PAVE/Jubilee House Opportunities Unit visit

A most enjoyable visit from members of staff and service users from PAVE and Jubilee House Opportunities Unit.

The visit was arranged, following a previous visit from PAVE, to allow an opportunity for other members of staff and service users to have a look around the site of the planned north plot grow your own scheme, to discuss the scheme in more detail and to confirm their allocation of raised planters.

Thank you to the Our Green Space Team

Our project coordinator Graham Bromley would like to take this opportunity and thank Carol Douglas and all at the Our Green Space project team for the card. It was very much appreciated, he is feeling better already :)

Our Green space is a Cumbria wide 3 year partnership project running until December 2011, supported by  the Heritage Lottery Funds "your heritage" grant scheme.  The aim of the project is to celebrate and enhance the heritage, cultural, environmental and community value of open green spaces in Cumbria for all to enjoy.

Network Rail , arch B clearance

It was nice to see Mark Parry from Network Rail again while he was organising a clean up of arch B. While showing Mark around the Green Heart Den during his inspection of the arches Mark confirmed that he does not have an issue with the project installing a secured gated access to both arches E and F, in a similar way as we have to arch D.

    Barrow Growing open session visitors

Various vistors and members of Barrow Growing pictured on the Green Heart Den during the open session in which they had a look around both the garden and the north plot grow your own scheme. Many of the visitors who had previously expressed an interest in the use of a raised planter on the grow your own scheme have now been allocated a planter.

Thank you to all who attended and helped to make it a most enjoyable event :)

Special thank you to Neighbourhood Manager Steve Robson.

    Greengate Street, "weak bridge" classification

I hope you can understand our concern in regard to the "weak bridge" classification of Greengate Street bridge, particularly as we are currently in the process of considering a proposed tenancy agreement from Netwrok Rail in regard to the four railway arches immediately below the area on Greengate Street bridge classified as a "weak bridge "
In paticular we would like to find out:
    • What crieria is used to determine whether or not the structure is "weak"?
    • What does "weak bridge" actually mean in terms of the structural integrity of the bridge.
    • What, if any, impact would this have on the arches below the bridge, the bridge over the railway line and Marsh Street?
    • Does this pose any possible risk, of any kind, to those using Greengate Street or living and working adjacent to the bridge?

We would be interested in hearing from all those responsible for the integrity and maintenance of structure and would like, if possible, to be provided with a copy of the complete structural survey that concluded and recommended this "weak bridge" classification and which may have possibly lead to the imposed weight restriction on vehicles.

    Thank you in anticipation.
