Feeding time.....


















Winter can be a difficult time for UK birds, especially in severe weather. You can help by providing a regular supply of food and clean fresh water. For more information about feeding birds please visit the RSPB website here.

Signal Films - FREE film making opportunity

"If you are aged between 16-19, live in Cumbria or North Lancashire and hope to be the next big thing in film making then this is the opportunity for you. We are looking for 10 of our areas most promising young film makers to take part in a free 3-month project during which you will receive film industry training in practical film making skills, film history and theory and film distribution".

Robins back.....




Winter can be a difficult time for UK birds, especially in severe weather. You can help by providing a regular supply of food and clean fresh water. If possible it is best to feed in the morning and in the early afternoon before it get dark

Foods to leave out include:

  • High calorie seed mixes
  • Black sunflower seeds
  • Nyjer seeds
  • Peanuts (unsalted)
  • Net free fat balls (netting can trap birds feet and may cause injury)
  • Mealworms
  • Kitchen scraps such; mild grated cheese, cooked potatoes, cooked rice, pastry and soaked fruit.

Tuesday 11 December 2012 ‘Making it wild at South Walney – Beach Clean’. Your chance to do your bit and help turn the tide on the ugly and harmful litter found on the beach. Meet South Walney Nature Reserve, Walney Island, GR SD 215 620.

Sunday 6 January 2013 ‘Making it wild at Abbotswood’ - 10.30-3.30 pm, meet at Mill Café car park, Furness Abbey. Help clear the invasive rhododendron from this County Wildlife Site.

Tuesday 8 January 2013  ‘Making it wild at South Walney’ - 10.30-3.30 pm, meet South Walney Nature Reserve. Help manage this reserve over the winter months. Please phone 471066 to let them know you’re going along, leave name and contact details.

Tuesday 15 January 2013 ‘Making it wild at Abbotswood’ - 12.30-3.30 pm meet at Mill Café car park, Furness Abbey. Help clear the invasive rhododendron from this County Wildlife Site.

Wednesday 16 January 2013 ‘Making a start with waders’  10-3.30 pm, meet South Walney Nature Reserve, Walney Island GR: SD 204 632. Aimed at those new to identifying wading birds.

Wednesday 16 January 2013 ‘Man, our seas and shores’ - 7.30-8.30 pm at the Forum, Duke St, Barrow. A look into the historical use of Morecambe Bay and the Irish Sea around Barrow.
