Contractor begins planting our lime trees

Continental Landscapes Ltd begin planting the red twigged/large leafed lime trees (Tilia platyphyllos rubra) which will be planted along the back street boundary wall. The leaves of these trees are green in spring and summer and yellow in autumn. The flowers produced emit a moderate pleasant scent which attracts bees.

First delivery of new lime trees

Trees beginning to arrive on site - Red twigged/large leafed lime trees (Tilia platyphyllos rubra). These are to be planted along the length of the back street boundary wall. The leaves are green in spring and summer and yellow in autumn. The flowers produced emit a moderate pleasant scent which attracts bees.

Excavating additional drainage channels

Contractors have needed to excavate an additional drainage channel to disperse water which is pooling under the sub surface adjacent to Greengate Street bridge. It is understood that the most likely source of this water is from seepage coming through the brickwork on Greengate Street bridge structure in various areas.

Preparing the hard surface area

Continental Landscapes Ltd begin initial levelling of the base layer stone chippings spread throughout the hard surface area. 

Continental Landscapes Ltd begin initial rolling of the base layer stone chippings spread throughout the hard surface area. Once completed this area will be finished with a limestone dust top surface.

Installing new pin kerbs

Taking delivery of concrete for the pins kerbs. The pins kerbs will form the edging for the block paving which is to be installed in the centre of the grass area.

Community grow your own scheme progress

Digging out the area to the left of the main entrance. New top soil will be added to this area on top of a geo textile membrane (the orange roll) and a protective mesh. Once this is in place the area will be planted with grass, wild flowers and edged with mixed shrubs.

Many of the stone chippings have now been spread throughout the hard surface area. Once levelled this area will be compacted and rolled in preparation for the final limestone dust top surface. In the foreground, the old raised planters are being recycled to make new compost bins.
