New developments and features
We are currently progressing the manufacture and the installation of a large arbour feature that will cover the promende area. Large wooden planting boxes containing climbing plants will be positioned at the foot of the columns supporting the arbour. The aim is for the plants to eventually cover the arbour and provide an intersting shaded area.
Funding for this feature was provided from part of our grant from Our Green Space.
Our Green Space is a Cumbria-wide three-year partnership project running from Jan 2008 to Dec 2010. The project is supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund’s 'Your Heritage' grant scheme. Friends of the Lake District manage the project in partnership with Action with Communities in Cumbria, and is supported by a wealth of organisations including Cumbria County Council, Cumbria Association of Local Councils, Cumbria Wildlife Trust and the Council for Voluntary Services.
The Our green Space project aims are to celebrate and enhance the heritage, cultural, environmental and community value of open green spaces in Cumbria for all to enjoy.
