- Monitor weather forecasts. If frost is due cover sensitive plants with sacking, straw or netting.
- Prepare soil for next year - Add compost and dig over heavy soil over the autumn months
- Cuttings can be taken from shrubs
- Do not cut grass as often and raise the cutting height
- Aerate, rake and top dress lawns to remove any moss
- Plant trees and shrubs
- Trim hedges
- Collect seeds in say a paper enveloped and store in an airtight container
- Plant spring flowering garden bulbs
- Plant spring cabbage, overwintering onions, garlic
- Clean old plant pots and seed trays
- Maintain garden tools
- Provide food for wildlife, particularly birds
- Try building a hedgehog box
- Make a leaf pile for hibernating mammals and ground feeding birds
